Job Summary

To provide one-on-one in-home rehabilitative services to children, adolescents, and families with children with mental illness. Rehabilitative services enable clients to develop and enhance psychiatric stability, social competencies, personal and emotional adjustment, independent living, and community skills, and provide resources and referrals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide CTSS individual and family skills training in the childs home, school or community that addresses the behaviors and areas of needed life skills to minimize the negative impact of the mental health diagnosis on daily living
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of mental illness
  • Must be able to travel within the Central Minnesota Region
  • Encourage client relationship and regular communication, coordinate services with other health care providers, interpreter, vocational workers, etc to ensure that client receives quality service to meet their needs
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with problems.
  • Support clients and family members to assist in adjusting to life and making changes
  • Maintain a caseload and be able to sustain attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible and able to meet deadlines
  • Accurately document services and complete progress notes and submit within 72 hours
  • Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge Monitor and review treatment plans every 90 days.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to evaluate clients progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
  • Evaluate clients progress Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in clients status
  • Must attend clinical supervision as required by Medical Assistance guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with DHS regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients treatment
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with supervisor, office staff, clients, vendors, and clients
  • Mandated reporter
  • Proactively and efficiently communicating with clients, interpreters, and other parties if sessions are canceled or rescheduled
  • Must complete 15 hours per year of ongoing continuing education in areas of mental illness and mental health services

Scope of the Position

Under close clinical supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Professional, the mental health practitioner will provide in-home life skills training to individual and families. Treatment goals will be developed to assist participants with psychosocial skills that are medically necessary to help the client reach an age appropriate developmental level.

Qualifications

  • Must meet DHS qualifications for Mental Health Practitioner in one of the following ways:

o Has completed at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences

or related fields and has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery

of services to adults or children with:

  1. Mental illness, substance use disorder, emotional disturbance, or
  2. Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental

illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness, and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.

o Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised work experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with any of the following:

  1. Mental illness, substance use disorder, emotional disturbance, or
  2. Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental

illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness, substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.

o Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults

or children with any of the following:

  • Mental illness, substance use disorder, emotional disturbance, or
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness, substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; and receives clinical supervision as required at least once a week from a mental health professional until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is met.

o Has a graduate student internship or a bachelors or masters degree and is a graduate student in behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training

o Has a bachelors or masters degree with any of the following:

  1. Holds a masters or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields
  2. Holds a bachelors degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and completesa.

practicum or internship that (1) requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and (2) is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.

  • A Mental Health Practitioner for an adult member must have training working with adults.
  • Knowledge of the effects of mental illness on people with cognitive impairments.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, enjoy flexibility, and manage stress.

  • Must be able to understand and communicate the English language (second language is a bonus)
  • Must be able to use and maintain a daily schedule
