About this position

The nutrition program supervisor is responsible for promoting nutrition and coordinating dietary planning within Options for Learning’s Nutrition Programs.

What you’ll be doing

  • Under the supervision of the nutrition program manager and nutrition program director, receiving and evaluating alternative meal requests;
  • Evaluating and approve medical statements on children who are unable to comply with USDA requirements;
  • Receiving, tracking, and preparing approved alternative meal requests for children needing specialty diets, including transport records;
  • Creating and personalizing nutrition plans for children, as specified on medical statements;
  • Maintaining child files with alternative meal records, such as requests, doctor’s notes, transport records, and electronic communications;
  • Evaluating the dietary needs for alternative meal requests;
  • Communicating with program staff to clarify alternative meal requests, as needed;
  • Offering counseling and suggesting positive alterations in nutrition with parents and/or guardians;
  • Setting clear objectives and providing support to families enrolled in child care programs;
  • Maintaining open communication regarding enrolled children’s progress with designated staff to track referrals from child care programs;
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations;
  • Keeping track of state and federal schedules of work and meeting contract timelines;
  • Conducting periodic assessments of the nutrition program and assisting auditors, as well as program reviewers;
  • Working effectively with nutrition assistants at sites and the other Nutrition Program team members;
  • Overseeing nutrition program specialists and coordinating meal count reporting and transport records;
  • Providing nutrition education sessions for site staff and Nutrition Program staff;
  • Developing educational material for parents/caregivers and providing workshops on topics regarding feeding concerns;
  • Supporting programs during family engagement events by providing educational activities to parents/caregivers and enrolled children;
  • Providing support to programs by extending nutrition resources and education to staff to help promote overall health and well-being of employees;
  • Developing and tracking annual site staff trainings regarding health, safety, and food handling;
  • Coordinating with the nutrition program manager and nutrition program director annually to review final products, to include tracking mandated trainings via the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) website;
  • Developing a monthly nutrition newsletter for center-based staff;
  • Carrying out problem resolutions with center-based staff and/or parents pertaining to special meals;
  • Supervising and evaluating nutrition program specialists;
  • Assessing training needs of the nutrition program specialists;
  • Representing the organization at assigned meetings;
  • Assisting nutrition program director and nutrition program manager as needed;
  • Accurately complete all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
  • Actively participate in the annual in-service training;
  • Abiding by all of Options for Learning’s policies and procedures;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table

  • Ability to work well with people, with a particular sensitivity to the needs of children and families;
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutritional science, dietetics, or a related field;
  • Three years of experience in Child and Adult Care Food Program, including implementation of menu preparation and alternative meal requests;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in preparing special meals in a child care setting;
  • Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Good organization skills;
  • Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
  • A California driver’s license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred);
  • Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese (preferred).

  • Eight-hour workday, four-day workweek;
  • Hybrid work schedule with approval by management;

Salary

  • $54,000-$72,000 per year (candidates should anticipate receiving an offer within the first quartile of the salary range).
