Assistant Investigator, Proteomics – Allen Institute for Brain Science The mission of the Allen Institute is to understand the principles that govern life and to advance health. Our teams focus on answering fundamental questions in bioscience, accelerating research, developing tools, and sharing knowledge broadly to impact the world. The Allen Institute for Brain Science aims to understand how the human brain functions in health and disease through large-scale projects creating comprehensive datasets and tools, and disseminating findings to the neuroscience community. We seek an exceptional individual to lead efforts in the Proteomics Initiative, focusing on affinity reagents development and characterization of cell-type specific protein composition and localization. This role bridges genomic/transcriptomic data with brain structure/function, providing insights into molecular mechanisms of brain circuits. The candidate should have a strong background in proteomics or protein science, preferably in neuroscience, with a proven publication record and experience in securing funding. The ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively is essential, along with alignment to the Institute's open and team science approach. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We are an equal-opportunity employer and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply. Essential Functions Lead development and high-throughput screening of affinity reagents for proteins in mouse and human brain. Collaborate on multiplexed protein detection approaches. Develop and apply proximity labeling, mass spectrometry, and imaging techniques for protein profiling in specific cell types and compartments. Build pipelines and scale proteomic data collection and analysis. Present progress summaries and publish findings in scientific forums. Apply for grants as a Principal Investigator. Required Education and Experience Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with emphasis on protein science, or equivalent experience. At least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. Strong background in proteomics and a proven publication record. Broad knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, and neuroscience. Preferred Qualifications Experience with antibody development, proximity labeling, mass spectrometry, microscopy, or multiplexed detection. Hands-on proteomic laboratory experience. Computational data analysis skills. Grant acquisition experience. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Experience working with laboratory animals and handling hazardous materials. Physical Demands Fine motor skills for lab and computer work. Position Details Primarily onsite at 615 Westlake Ave N., with limited remote work. Occasional travel to collaborators and conferences.
