Job Description

Lead the Invisible Engine of Air Travel

At CLX Engineering, our automation quietly keeps airports moving. As an Aviation Baggage Systems Controls Integration Lead, you own the end-to-end technical heartbeat of complex systems so travelers never notice a thing—and that's exactly the goal.

A Day in the Life

You arrive at an active concourse before first light. Overnight, your PLC update improved a merge. You walk the conveyor line, verify I/O, check VFD trends, and align with operations on the commissioning plan. By mid-morning, you're leading vendors through SAT steps, collaborating with a teammate on Ignition visualization tweaks, and fielding a client question about TSA testing. When a sensor fault pops during a load test, you isolate an EtherNet/IP node, adjust Studio 5000 logic, and keep the line humming. Before sign-off, you close out punch items, publish the DOO revisions, and send a crisp status summary to stakeholders.

What You'll Own

  • Full technical execution on site: daily coordination, status updates, and roadblock removal
  • Primary point of contact for clients and internal teams across design, build, and commissioning
  • Front-end support for proposals, estimating, and early technical planning
  • PLC development and troubleshooting (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, CCW; IEC languages)
  • Industrial network integration (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet); interface with VFDs, HMIs, SCADA, and third-party systems
  • System integration and visualization using Ignition; HMI development (FactoryTalk View preferred; Ignition/Wonderware also welcome)
  • Design, programming, testing, and commissioning of baggage handling and boarding bridge systems
  • Operator-centric HMI screen design that is clean, intuitive, and reliable
  • AutoCAD updates; ensure adherence to codes and applicable standards
  • Lead/supervise installation crews and vendors; validate performance end-to-end
  • Plan and execute in-house testing, site acceptance testing, and full commissioning
  • Author test plans, work plans, and detailed DOOs
  • Coordinate materials and logistics to keep work fronts unblocked
  • Partner with fellow engineers on shared programming and system design tasks

Working Reality

  • Night shifts, off-hours, and occasional overtime during commissioning are part of the craft
  • Travel is required, sometimes on short notice
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule
  • Active airport environments: tight spaces, low light, and variable temperatures
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and work safely around live systems

What You Bring

  • 4+ years of hands-on PLC programming with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar
  • Experience operating in live, high-pressure industrial or transportation settings
  • Strong command of controls/automation concepts and electrical schematics
  • Ability to interpret and execute TSA testing requirements and formal test plans
  • HMI/SCADA proficiency (FactoryTalk View preferred; Ignition/Wonderware acceptable)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Clear written and verbal communication; strong client-facing presence
  • Proven ability to lead crews and coordinate with clients, vendors, and trades
  • Willingness and ability to pass TSA SIDA clearance and background checks

Additional Proficiencies

  • PLC troubleshooting and PLC programming experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • General troubleshooting and industrial electrical experience
  • CAD software proficiency
  • SCADA experience
  • High voltage systems familiarity
  • Industrial robot programming exposure

Tools and Technologies You'll Use

  • VFDs and motor control
  • CAD platforms: AutoCAD, Siemens NX
  • PLCs: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, Fanuc

If you take pride in building systems that “just work” night after night, flight after flight, this role puts you in the driver’s seat.
